Indonesia requires visitors to obtain a visa to enter the country. In October 2020, the Indonesian government introduced the e-Visa to simplify the visa application process and reduce wait times. Initially, the e-Visa is offered to business travelers from specific countries with Travel Corridor agreements with Indonesia, as well as investors, skilled workers, and civil servants.


This is expected to help stimulate economic recovery in the country and is also part of Indonesia's COVID-19 control strategy.

Different Types of Indonesia Visas

Indonesia offers different types of visas to foreign nationals based on the purpose of their visit and length of stay. The most common types of Indonesia visas are:

Digital Nomad Visa: 

This is a new type of visa that was introduced in 2021 for digital nomads who want to live and work remotely in Indonesia for up to one year.

Business eVisa: 

To boost economic recovery, the Indonesian government is initially offering the e-Visa to business travelers from designated countries with a Travel Corridor agreement with Indonesia. Additionally, investors, skilled workers, and civil servants are also eligible to apply for the e-Visa.

Short-stay Visa: 

A short-stay visa allows visitors to stay in Indonesia for up to 60 days. There are different types of short-stay visas:

  1. Tourist Visa: This visa is issued to foreign nationals who want to visit Indonesia for tourism or leisure activities. It is valid for up to 30 days and can be extended for an additional 30 days.

  2. Business Visa: This visa is issued to foreign nationals who want to visit Indonesia for business purposes such as attending meetings, conferences, or negotiating contracts. It is valid for up to 60 days and can be extended for an additional 30 days.

  3. Social-Cultural Visa: This visa is issued to foreign nationals who want to visit Indonesia for cultural or social activities such as attending seminars, workshops, or cultural events. It is valid for up to 60 days and can be extended for an additional 30 days.

  4. Transit Visa: This visa is issued to foreign nationals who are transiting through Indonesia to another country. It is valid for up to 7 days and cannot be extended.

Long-stay Visa: 

A long-stay visa allows visitors to stay in Indonesia for more than 60 days. There are different types of long-stay visas:

  1. Study Visa: The study visa is for those who wish to study in Indonesia. It allows for a stay of up to one year and can be extended for the duration of the course.

  2. Work Visa: The work visa is for those who wish to work in Indonesia. It allows for a stay of up to one year and can be extended up to four times, each time for one year.

Indonesia Visa Requirements

To apply for an Indonesia visa, foreign nationals must fulfill the following requirements:

  1. Passport: The passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of entry into Indonesia.

  2. Photographs: Two recent passport-size photographs are required.

  3. Proof of Travel: Applicants must provide proof of their travel itinerary, including flight tickets and hotel reservations.

  4. Financial Means: Applicants must provide proof of sufficient financial means to support their stay in Indonesia.

  5. Health Certificate: Applicants must provide a health certificate stating that they are free from any contagious diseases.

  6. Invitation Letter: For certain types of visas such as the social-cultural visa, applicants must provide an invitation letter from a sponsor in Indonesia.

How to Apply for an Indonesia Visa

Foreign nationals can apply for an Indonesia visa either Through the Indonesia eVisa Program or at an embassy or consulate, depends uponr nationality and visa type. The process for applying for an Indonesia visa is as follows:

Applying for an Indonesia Visa Online (eVisa)

  1. Visit the eVisa website of the Indonesian. Find the eVisa application form.

  2. Choose your country of origin and the type of visa you want to apply for. You will also need to provide your travel purpose and duration of stay in Indonesia.

  3. Fill out the online application form with your personal details and upload the required documents such as your passport scan, photograph, and travel itinerary.

  4. Once you have completed the application, pay the visa fee online using a valid credit or debit card. The fee will vary depending on the type of visa and your nationality.

  5. After paying the fee, you will receive an email confirming that your application has been received and is being processed. You can track the status of your application using the tracking number provided in the confirmation email.

Processing Time for Indonesia eVisa:

The processing time for an Indonesia eVisa is 3-5 business days. However, it may take longer if additional documents are required or if the application is referred for further processing.

Urgent Visa Application: 

Applicants who need an urgent visa can apply for an express service. The processing time for an express service is 1-3 business days, and there wiil be an additional fee.
