Countries Providing E-Visa Services for Travel

Many countries now offer the convenience of E-Visa services for travellers. This digital innovation streamlines the visa application process, making it easier for individuals to obtain the necessary travel documentation before their journey.

List Of Countries Offering E Visa

What is An E-Visa?

E-visa is a digital solution designed to streamline the visa application process, eliminating lengthy paperwork and providing an alternative to traditional border-issued visas. It allows travellers to easily apply for visas online to their desired destinations.

These visas are not different from other types of travel visas. The only difference is that you can complete the application process online. E-visas are mainly issued for touristic purposes.

In contrast to an Embassy visa, to obtain a visa on arrival you do not need to apply for a visa before travelling, which allows for smoother travel. This type of visa is created by an agreement between countries

Obtaining An E-Visa

Here are a few general steps to follow when applying for an e-visa;

  • Apply Online: Visit the official e–Visa website of the country you intend to visit. Fill in the required information in the online e-Visa form.
  • Upload Necessary Documents: This usually includes an original digital passport(that has to be valid for a minimum of 6 months with at least 3 blank visa pages), photocopy of that data page of the passport, two passport size photographs, proof of financial means and proof of ties to the home country.
  • Pay the e-Visa Fee : As the process of application is online, payment can typically be done also online using a debit or card card, or a digital payment wallet.
  • How much should you pay?: The cost of an e-Visa varies by country and visa type. For instance, the UJ’s short visit visa fee is £115. India’s e-Visa fee isn't specified online, while the US charges $185 for most non-immigrant visas. New Zealand’s IVL fee is NZD $35.
  • Receive Electronic Travel Authorization(ETA): This is sent to your email once payment has been received and confirmed.

List of Countries Offering e-Visas

E-visas have simplified travel procedures, allowing travellers to apply online for entry into various countries. Below is a list of countries offering e-visas for the convenience of international travellers.

Before we dive in, note that I excluded countries with web-based visa applications that either still require sending stacks of paperwork in, or that are reviewed by a consular officer. Sure, Australia offers an e600 online visa application similar to those offered by Canada, the UK, and Ireland, but these are merely the beginning of the same gruelling process of going to an embassy. Actually, I think I’d prefer to go to the embassy than deal with those applications.

In addition, I excluded “pre-approval” confirmations like ESTA in the United States and ETA in Australia, which are not visa applications per se, even if they feel like as much work as the process of other e visa countries.

So here is a list of real e visa countries, as well as my personal feedback on those I have used.

European Countries

Georgia

Georgia is one of the most open e visa countries in the world, perhaps second to only Ecuador. Even countries that face a lot of problems travelling, such as Thailand, have easy access. If you aren’t from the laundry list of countries that get a one-year stamp upon arrival, you’ll need to go through the easy e-visa process. Nationals of a few countries – Cuba, Guatemala, Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, and a number of Caribbean islands – can apply for 90 days, while all others – such as Chinese and Indians – can apply for 30 days. I live in Georgia so can’t comment much on the process, but if it’s like anything else the government does, it should be very efficient. The website is here.

Moldova

Moldova extends its visa offerings to various Western and all European nations, granting visa-free access for a 90-day period. Moldova provides three distinct types of visas, catering to different travel needs: the airport transit visa (Type A), the transit visa (Type B) valid for 5 days, and the short-stay visa (Type C) for a 90-day duration. Payments for visa-related fees can conveniently be made through credit or debit cards. Depending on your requirements, the application process may take between 10 to 20 days.

Russia

As of January 2021, Russia introduces a "unified e-visa" service, welcoming visitors from 53 countries with a 60-day validity period. This e-visa option covers a range of purposes, including tourism, business trips, private visits, and participation in cultural, socio-political, scientific, economic, or sporting events. For those planning to explore the vast expanse of the world's largest country, applying for the e-visa can be conveniently accomplished through the official website, with payment options including Visa, MasterCard, and more.

Malaysia

Not only is Malaysiaone of the one of the cheapest and safest countries in the world, making it one of the best Asian countries to live in amongst other reasons, but it’s also one of the world’s easiest countries to visit. 66 countries’ citizens get 90-day visa-free, another 94 countries receive 30-day visa-free travel, and two countries receive 14 days without a visa.

Combine that with Malaysia’s easy visa run policy and it is one of the easiest countries to visit as a tourist. However, there are currently 34 countries which require an e-visa including Bhutan, Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, India, Montenegro, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Serbia, and Sri Lanka. (I have no idea what Serbia and Montenegro did to irritate Malaysia’s immigration officials.)

A thirty-day e-visa may be applied for online provided the applicant is outside of Malaysia and Singapore, a status they do seem to check diligently. The visa is good for three months from date of issue but the thirty-day stay only applies to single-entry visas; multiple entry visas offer only 14 days in Malaysia.

Côte d'Ivoire, the previously troubled West African nation, has introduced an online visa application process that now accepts payments. Although I'm not well-versed in the details of this process, as I don't frequently visit Africa, Côte d'Ivoire isn't among my top interests in trending African countries.
