Visa is an authorized document stamped on a passport that permits the holder to travel to, stay within, and leave the territories of a foreign land. The government of a country authorizes a visa to its visitors, expressing that the visitor has permission to enter and stay for a certain time and also leave its territory when the purpose is fulfilled. A visa is only issued when the visitor successfully convinces the government that he is completely eligible and meets all the demands placed by the government. The Ugandan government permits citizens from almost every country to issue a visa for its land.

There are several ways one can obtain a visa for Uganda. There are Visa on arrival, Visa from the Embassy of Uganda, and e-Visa or electronic visa. The opportunity of E-Visa or an online visa application has started from 1st of July, 2016 in Uganda. The e-Visa requirements and process are discussed below.

To issue an e-visa one must first select the type of visa required for his visit to Uganda. The most requested visa of Uganda are :

Tourist Visa: Travellers wishing to visit Uganda for the sole reason of tourism and sightseeing required a tourist visa. This visa can be obtained online or upon arrival. The validity of the Uganda Tourist Visa is 90 days from the date of issue. This visa permits single, double, and multiple entries to Uganda.

Uganda Transit Visa: Transit visas are issued to nonimmigrant visitors of Uganda wishing to transit to a different country from Uganda airport. The validity of this visa is 2 days. One must apply for a transit visa prior to the landing on Uganda soil.

East Africa Visa: The East Africa Tourist Visa is issued to applicants wishing to visit the lands of Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda simultaneously. The applicant can enter multiple times in these three countries during the validation duration of the visa. The visa will expire automatically if the applicant leaves the territories of these three countries combined.

After selecting the type of visa you would require for the purpose of your visit to Uganda you would need to enter the website of the Ugandan Government to find the online application form of e-Visa. The validity of the passport must exceed at least six months for the application of a visa for Uganda. The process of filling up the form is explained below.

Uganda Electronic Visa/Permit Application System

The Uganda Electronic Visa/Permit Application System performs checks against law enforcement databases. All travelers seeking admission to Uganda are required to obtain a Visa using this system prior to being granted boarding.

If your visa or permit application is approved, it establishes that you are eligible for the approved visa or permit, but does not establish that your application is definitely approved.

Upon arrival to Uganda (at the selected point of entry) or to the Immigration Office Headquarters, you will be inspected by an Immigration Officer who may determine if your application is finally approved. All information provided by you, or on your behalf by a designated third party, must be true and correct. A visa or permit application approval may be revoked at any time and for any reason, such as new information influencing eligibility. You may be subject to administrative or criminal penalties if you knowingly and willfully make a materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or representation in an electronic visa or permit application submitted by you or on your behalf.
