So, if you are planning a trip to this well-kept natural wonder, there is good news. Guinea has introduced a new electronic visa facility for travellers to obtain travel authorisation for entering the country and staying for a limited period.

The electronic visa service enables travellers to apply for a visa to Guinea without visiting an embassy or consulate. However, it would be best if you kept in mind the visa application guidelines before applying. In this article, you will get all the necessary details on how to get electronic travel authorisation of Guinea.

Points to Remember:

  • It is worth noting that submitting an e-Visa application will not entitle you to obtain a Guinea visa because the request may get rejected or accepted by the concerned authorities. In case the visa is denied, the visa processing fee will not be reimbursed.  
  • Every foreign national will require a visa to enter the territory of Guinea except if you belong to one of the visa waiver countries.
  • The e-Visa is offered for business and tourism-related trips
  • Visitors need to make sure they meet the necessary entry requirements set by the country's Central Directorate of the Border Police (DCPAF).

Visa Exemptions for Non-Ordinary Passport Holders

Diplomatic and service or non-ordinary passport holders from specific countries are also exempted from visa requirements. They can visit Guinea without obtaining a visa and stay visa-free for up to 90 days. Here is the list of countries eligible for visa waivers for non-ordinary passport holders.

In addition to the countries listed above, holders of diplomatic or service passports from the following countries do not need a visa to enter Guinea for up to 90 days:

  • China (Including "for public affairs" ordinary passport holders)
  • Romania
  • Russia
  • South Africa
  • Turkey (Only diplomatic passport holders can enter without a visa)
  • Zimbabwe

Types of Guinea Visas

Following are the types of Visa the Guinea government issues to foreigners: 

  • VCS (Single Entry Guinea Visa), which has a validity of up to 90 days
  • VLS (Long Term Guinea Visa is a visa issued to foreigners planning on staying for more than three months). This visa has a validity of up to one year
  • VESRM (Multiple Entry Guinea Visa) is a visa with three to five years of validity. This type of visa depends on the treaty, and bilateral commitment Guinea Government has with your country. 
  • VP (Guinea Visa Prorogation), this type of visa is issued to an applicant based on his previous Guinea Visa
  • VTB (Visa de Transbordement), a Visa only for foreigners transiting in the Guinea Territory. This type of visa has a validity of a maximum of three days
  • VS (Guinea Service Visa), VD (Diplomatic Visa), and VC (Courtesy Visa), these visas are issued only on the approval of jurisdiction of an approval Officer

There are additional visa categories offered by Guinea based on the traveller's purpose of travel, for instance, work, business, or tourism.

 

What are the Guinea Visa requirements?

There are some documents that you need to have while applying for a Guinea Visa. Those requirements are: 

  • A passport with a validity of at least six months.  
  • Scanned copies of the personal information page of your passport
  • A recently taken passport-size photograph of the applicant with a plain white background.
  • Yellow Fever certificate. 
  • A return-flight ticket that proves your travel plans.  
  • An official letter of appointment or nomination if applying for a service/courtesy/diplomatic visa. 
  • Additional documents to explain the traveller's purpose of visiting Guinea.


Guinea Tourist Visa Requirements

If the purpose of visiting Guinea is Tourism, then you need to have the following documents:

  • An accommodation proof that shows where you will be staying, such as reservation of a hotel
  • A letter from family or friends if you are planning on staying with them. 
     

Guinea Business Visa Requirements

If the purpose of visiting Guinea is business, then you need to have the following documents.

  • A signed invitation letter from the organisation or company you will be visiting in Guinea. The letter needs to be written on a letterhead of the company or organisation you are visiting, the duration and purpose of the visit, and your full name. 
  • A letter from the traveller's employer to explain the purpose of their travel, also including a guarantee of financial support (if applicable).

Guinea Work Visa Requirements

If the purpose of visiting Guinea is a long-term business, then you must have the following documents:

  • An approved employment contract by the relevant authorities of the foreigners who want participation in paid employment in Guinea. 
  • Alternatively, authorisation from the relevant authorities to promote industrial, agricultural, artistic activity, commercial, or do a liberal profession. 

Guinea Transit Visa Requirements

Suppose the purpose of visiting Guinea is to transit to another country, then you must have the following documents when applying for the Guinea Transit Visa:

  • A recently taken passport-size photograph of the applicant with a plain white background.
  • Scanned copies of the personal information page of your passport
  • Yellow Fever Certificate
  • Proof that you will be travelling onward; an airline ticket
  • Visa of the third country you are visiting, if a visa is required

Guinea Visa requirements upon arrival

The following documents must be shown to the immigration officer at the Visa On Arrival counter once you arrive at the airport in Guinea:

  • A passport with a validity of at least six months.  
  • A receipt of your eVisa Registration or an Entry Visa Letter. 
  • Proof that you can afford to live in the country, such as debit/credit cards, cash, or traveller's cheques. 
  • A return-flight ticket that proofs your travel back from Guinea.  
  • An accommodation proof, such as living in a hotel or with friends or family. 

Confusions Surrounding Guinea visa requirements.

There is some confusion in travellers' minds regarding who can enter Guinea without a visa. We will address those issues in this section.

For your information, the Timatic service of the IATA (International Air Transport Association) has stated that travellers from Namibia, Singapore, Tunisia, and Mauritania don't require a visa to enter Guinea. However, this requirement is not endorsed by Guinea's Ministry of Security and Civil Protection's Central Directorate of the Border Police (DCPAF). When we checked their website, we could not find any evidence that supports this requirement.

Moreover, as per the DCPAF official website, Cuban citizens don't require a Guinea visa, whereas the Timatic services of the IATA state that they need a visa.

And, the IATA's Timatic service states that UAE citizens can obtain a Guinea Visa on Arrival (VoA). Conversely, the DCPAF claims that they must acquire a visa online before travelling to Guinea.

Guinea Visa Fee

The visa fee depends on the visa type you are applying for, as there's a price difference between tourist visas, business visas, and transit visa fees. Here's a breakdown of the visa processing fees for different visas.

  • Tourist visa with up to 90 days validity costs $ ()
  • Transit visa or Transbordement visa with up to 3 days validity costs $ ()
  • Long-Term Visa with up to 1 year validity costs $()

 As mentioned above, the visa processing fee is non-refundable in case your application is refused. The fees must be paid when applying for the visa online using a valid credit or debit card.

Guinea Visa Validity

Guinea e-visa validity varies according to the type of visa you require. Here are all the necessary details on each visa's validity.

Tourist Visa: A single-entry visa with up to 90 days validity.

Long Term Visa: Offered for one year starting from the date the visa is issued.

Multiple Entry Visa: This visa is valid for three to five years.

Transit Visa: The visa will be valid for up to three days.

How to apply for a Guinea Visa?

There is an application process for a Guinea visa which is: 

  • Applying for a Guinea eVisa
  • Paying the Guinea eVisa or visa Fee
  • Waiting for the approval process usually, this process can take up to 72 hours. After approval within 72 hours, the Guinea visa-issuing authorities will contact you via email or inform you of the outcome.  
  • Travelling to Guinea and then receiving a visa at Conakry Airport upon arrival. 

Applying for Guinea eVisa

You need to enter your email ID, after which you will receive a verification code (number) to proceed with your Guinea visa application. After verifying, you can start your online application for a Guinea Visa. Next, you need to answer a few questions regarding: 

  • Your Nationality and personal information 
  • Information regarding your passport
  • Your trip details, such as accommodation, entrance, and departure dates. 
  •  Choose the visa type you are applying for
  • Upload the scanned copies of the required documents.
  • Pay your visa fee. 

Getting a Visa On Arrival at Guinea Conakry Airport

Once your eVisa for Guinea is approved, you will receive a receipt of the eVisa Registration or Entry Visa letter, which you must take with you to Guinea. After approaching the Visa on Arrival at Conakry Airport, please submit the biometric information and physical copies of the required documents.

Note: Entering depends entirely on the immigration officer at the airport, and the Guinea eVisa is not the entire approval for entering the country. 

Guinea Visa Processing Time

A Guinea electronic visa is generally processed within 72 hours of applying. However, the processing time may increase if there are public holidays in between. Keep in mind that the processing is conducted on business days, so it will take three business days to process your application.
