Carnival Corporation establishes a fresh Solar Park in the Dominican Republic.
Carnival Corporation & Plc, the leading cruise company globally, has showcased its steadfast dedication to sustainability by introducing a new solar park at the Amber Cove Cruise Center in the Dominican Republic. This remarkable solar park, featuring over 1,800 solar panels, is positioned to meet 80% of the port's energy needs.
A Step Towards Environmental Sustainability in the Dominican Republic
The ribbon-cutting event, attended by government officials, business figures, and community delegates, symbolised a noteworthy achievement. Joel Santos, the minister of the presidency of the Dominican Republic, shared his excitement, noting, "This milestone positions Amber Cove as the first cruise terminal in our nation with such a large-scale project." Beyond its energy output, the solar park promotes clean energy and environmental sustainability in Puerto Plata, the Dominican Republic's foremost tourist destination.
Duffy emphasised the importance of environmental stewardship in the Dominican Republic and all destinations visited by the company. "As we bring guests to enjoy the beauty and rich culture of the Dominican Republic, we also take our environmental stewardship here and everywhere we visit very seriously," said Duffy. "With this new solar park in Amber Cove, we are furthering our commitment to sustainability at our destinations by focusing on renewable energy sources to power most of the port's needs."

By adopting renewable solar energy, the port aims to significantly decrease its reliance on fossil fuel-based energy sources significantly, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The solar park is projected to cut emissions by around 1,000 tons annually, equivalent to planting over 30,000 trees. This forward-looking initiative aligns with Carnival Corporation's dedication to environmental stewardship. Situated on the scenic north coast of the Dominican Republic near the historic town of Puerto Plata, the Amber Cove Cruise Center spans 25 acres. It offers various amenities, including;
- Restaurants
- Shops
- Bars
- Pools
- Ziplines
- Waterfront and hilltop cabanas
- Exciting shore excursions such as snorkelling and waterfall adventures.
Four cruise lines under Carnival Corporation—Carnival Cruise Line, Costa Cruises, Holland America Line, and Princess Cruises—regularly visit this lively port. Notably, Amber Cove welcomed itsone millionth arriving guests last December, representing over half of all cruise guest visits to the Dominican Republic in 2023.
