Travelling to Qatar using the Visa

On September 27th, 2017, the Government of Qatar introduced the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system. This digital platform enables eligible travellers to apply for the Qatar ETA electronically.

Meaning of Qatar Visa

An ETA, or Electronic Travel Authorization, is a digital travel authorization that grants the holder entry into the issuing country without the need for a traditional visa. While some may refer to the Qatar ETA as the Qatar visa, Qatar tourist visa, e visa Qatar, or Qatar travel visa, it's important to understand that the ETA is distinct from a traditional visa. Nevertheless, the ETA is a valid and mandatory document that permits entry into Qatar.

Eligible Countries that can enter Qatar without a Permit or a Visit Visa

Travellers who are not eligible for visa-free entry to Qatar but possess a valid residence permit or visit visa for Schengen countries, Australia, Canada, UK, USA, or New Zealand, can obtain the Qatar Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). To check your eligibility, you can use our Visa Checker tool at the top of this page. By entering your departure and destination countries, you can determine the available Qatar visa options for your situation.

Validity period of a Qatar ETA

The Qatar online visa or ETA can be obtained through the online Qatar ETA application system. It is valid for a period of up to 30 days after arrival or until the passport's expiration date, whichever comes first. Applicants are required to possess an ordinary passport with a validity of at least 6 months from the date of entry into Qatar. The Qatar visit visa granted through the ETA is for single entry only. Once you have successfully completed the online Qatar visa application process, you will be ready for your journey. Learn more about how to apply online.

Applying for the Qatar ETA

To apply for the Qatar ETA, follow these simple steps:

  • Provide Personal Information: Enter your personal details, along with information about your intended stay in Qatar and your health condition, as required in the Qatar visa application.
  • Essential Requirement for Visa-Exempt Travellers: The ETA is mandatory for all travellers who are exempt from obtaining a traditional visa.
  • Three Easy Steps: You can secure your Qatar ETA through a straightforward process involving just three steps. The entire application should not take more than 10 minutes to complete, ensuring a quick and efficient process.

By following these steps, you will obtain your Qatar ETA swiftly and hassle-free.

Documents needed for the application process

To successfully apply for the Qatar ETA, you will need the following documents:

  • Valid Passport: A scanned copy of your ordinary passport's bio page with a validity of at least 6 months from your intended entry date into Qatar.
  • Passport-size Photo: A passport-sized photograph meeting the required specifications.
  • Airline Reservation: A confirmed flight reservation for your travel to Qatar.
  • Proof of Accommodation: If staying at a hotel, provide a copy of your hotel reservation. If staying with a Qatari resident, you'll need an invitation letter from the resident along with their Qatar resident visa copy, Qatar ID, and their passport's bio page. For staying with a Qatari national, a copy of their Qatari national ID and an invitation letter are necessary.
  • Proof of Residence: Provide documentation such as a resident card, resident visa, utility bill, tenancy contract, phone bill, credit/debit card bill, or the official printed address page on your passport.
  • Proof of Valid Visitor Visa: If you hold a valid visitor visa for any of the following countries - Australia, Canada, GCC, New Zealand, Schengen countries, USA, or UK - provide a copy of the visa. The visa must be valid for at least 30 days after your intended entry date into Qatar.

These documents are essential to ensure a smooth and successful Qatar ETA application process. Make sure to have them ready before starting your application.

Qatar e-Visa extension

For citizens of countries eligible for visa-free entry to Qatar for up to 30 days, there is an option to extend their stay by an additional 30 days. To avail of this extension, you can apply at the Immigration Office.

However, if you are from a country that is allowed to stay in Qatar without a visa for up to 90 days within a 180-day period, you are not eligible for an extension of your stay.

It's important to note that exceeding the permitted duration of stay will result in a fee that must be paid before departure. The overstay fee is QAR per day, approximately equivalent to US$ per day.
