South Korea Resumes Visa-Free Travel to Hong Kongers with K-ETA

Hong Kongers can now once again enjoy visa-free travel to South Korea thanks to the reinstatement of the K-ETA visa waiver. The Republic of Korea had suspended its visa waiver program in April 2020, leaving Hong Kong passport holders unable to enter the country without a visa for over two years.

However, starting from July 1, 2022, visa-free entry to South Korea has been resumed for Hong Kongers holding Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) or British National (Overseas) passports.

Visa-Free Travel for Hong Kongers to South Korea: What Are the Conditions?

The Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Hong Kong has made an important announcement regarding the K-ETA system. As of Monday, June 20, 2022, it has been confirmed that the K-ETA system will once again accept applications from Hong Kong residents starting from June 30.

Visa-Free Entry to South Korea

In addition to the K-ETA system reopening, exciting news awaits Hong Kong travelers. Starting from July 1, entry to South Korea will be permitted without the need for a visa. This means that Hong Kongers can visit South Korea for tourism, business, or other purposes without going through the visa application process.

Timely Application Recommended

With the anticipation of a significant increase in applications once visa-free travel resumes, the consulate advises all travelers to apply for their K-ETA in advance. It is recommended to submit the application at least 72 hours before boarding the flight to allow ample time for assessment and processing. This precautionary measure will help minimize any potential delays caused by the surge in application volume.

K-ETA Requirements and Validity

For Hong Kong residents planning to visit South Korea, it is essential to be aware of the K-ETA requirements. The K-ETA is mandatory for both air and sea travel to South Korea. Therefore, all Hong Kong residents must obtain the K-ETA before their departure, regardless of the mode of transportation.

With streamlined travel procedures, individuals can now explore the vibrant culture, breathtaking landscapes, and unique experiences that South Korea has to offer.
