China Reinstates 15-Day Visa-Free Entry for Citizens of Singapore and Brunei
BEIJING, July 23 - After a hiatus of more than three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, China announced on Wednesday the reinstatement of its 15-day visa-free entry policy for Singaporean and Bruneian citizens, according to statements released by its embassies in the respective countries.
Expanded Travel Opportunities for Business and Leisure
As per the announcement, starting Wednesday, nationals from Singapore and Brunei holding regular passports will be able to take advantage of this visa exemption when travelling for a variety of purposes.
These include business trips, tourism, visits to family and friends, and even while in transit. The information was made available through notices posted on the official websites of the Chinese embassies in both nations.
Progress Towards Normality Post COVID-19
The Chinese government began loosening its stringent zero-COVID measures in December, marking a significant step towards the normalization of international travel.
However, it wasn't until March that China recommenced the issuance of tourist visas, demonstrating its commitment to gradually opening up while maintaining pandemic-related vigilance.
Aspirations for Reciprocal Visa-Free Travel
In addition to resuming visa-free entry for Singaporean and Bruneian citizens, China is also actively pursuing visa-free travel for its own citizens to Singapore, underscoring its desire for greater bilateral travel facilitation between the countries.
